Alternative Dispute
Resolution

The Carter Development Group provides restorative justice services for organizations seeking to provide an opportunity to repair the harm and rebuild relationships in the community with those who take responsibility for the harm. This very important approach to conflict resolution and community development is led by experienced conflict resolution practitioners and mental health therapists from our firm. Our services are geared toward juvenile justice programs and educational institutions (K-12 and Higher Education). CDG will coordinate and facilitate your restorative engagements with the necessary parties, including the individual responsible for the harm, the harmed, family members, and gatekeepers to the community. If you are seeking to start a restorative justice program, CDG also provides program design with customized protocols, tools, and train-the-trainer trainings for Prevention initiatives, Intervention initiatives, and Reintegration.
Facilitation is an alternative dispute resolution approach, preventative or prescriptive, that manages the conversation of opposing parties to gather information and share points of views toward the end of building understanding, insight, and new perspectives. The Carter Development Group is adept and experienced at conducting facilitative dialogues and has done so over the past past five years. The Carter Development Group uses the Eight P’s of Effective Facilitation Planning and Preparation from the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) Handbook of Group Facilitation. CDG also utilizes the Courageous Conversations About Race (Pacific Education Group) for race-related conversations. Courageous Conversations About Race contains three components to guide the process: 1) the Four Agreements, 2) the Six Conditions, and 3) the Compass.

Whether court-mandated or volunteer, the Carter Development Group provides mediation services for family or corporate disputes. Our Florida court certified mediators and/or PhD level mediators are skilled, experienced, and effective. According to the Florida Courts, mediation is a way for people who are having a dispute to talk about their issues and concerns and to make decisions about the dispute with the help of another person (called a mediator). A mediator is not allowed to decide who is right or wrong or to tell you how to resolve your dispute. In mediation, you can try to find solutions that make sense to you and the other person in the dispute to resolve some or all of your concerns.

  • Mediation provides an opportunity to talk with someone who is impartial.
  • The issues in your dispute are not decided by someone else (self-determination)
  • What you say in mediation is confidential
  • The mediator can help you overcome obstacles to communication with the other person or party in your dispute
  • Mediation agreements are enforceable
  • A mediated agreement allows you and the other person or party to reach flexible solutions to your dispute
  • Mediation is not a trial nor an arbitration
  • Mediation can save time and costs
  • You know what you have agreed to in mediation instead of gambling with what the judge or jury may decide if you go to court
  • Mediation is an opportunity to gain a greater understanding about why the dispute arose
